So at the end of our stay in Missouri, Quincey started to get really cranky. I chalked it up to just being tired of traveling and being off of her normal schedule, but, as we got to Wyoming, it became clear that something else was wrong.
It was then that I happened to have a good view into her mouth (she HATES me trying to poke and prod in her mouth) that I saw she had a tooth growing from the roof of her at, what looked like, a 90 degree angle in between her front big tooth and the one next to it. I was worried because, in addition to this, I could only see half of her front incisor that had come in months ago. I looked as though half of it was just gone. Like it had chipped off maybe. That was all I could think so, I definitely didn't want to wait to get home to get some sort of professional opinion. So, I called my sister who called her brother-in-law who is a dentist. I sent him the only pictures I could really get of her mouth and after looking at this, he stated that it was obvious she had an abscess which was causing her gum line to swell over the tooth that she has had for a long time which is making it look like half of it was gone. Not sure if that was good news but, I was glad that she hadn't lost half of one of he baby teeth.
He also stated that he though her teeth were just growing in the wrong order. Although I wasn't convinced of this, I was glad to hear that regardless, none of it was serious and the abscess would clear up within a few days which it did.
However, when we got home I promptly called a pediatric dentist and got her in. After examining her, he explained that she has a supernumerary tooth which is an extra baby tooth that is growing out of the roof of her mouth at a 90 degree angel! He said that there also may be a chance that it is fused together with the tooth next to it but we wouldn't know until they grew in more. This was a couple months ago and, it's safe to say that it's simply an extra baby tooth. Which, in turn, could mean an extra adult tooth as well. But, we'll deal with that in years to come if we have to.
I always knew that Quincey was special and unique!
Here are the only pictures I could get that showed her mouth.
And, I was told that lots of popcicles should be in store for Quincey while she deals with the pain. She, of course, loves them!
